What is PrEP?

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is the daily (or as-needed) use of medication prior to potential HIV exposure to decrease the chance of transmission. It usually consists of a single tablet containing 2 medications – Tenofovir DF and Emtricitabine. Access to PrEP requires active MSP, baseline lab work, an HIV negative test, and a risk assessment to determine if you are eligible. All medications for HIV (PrEP, HIV treatment, and PEP) come from a central location in Vancouver, BC and are shipped to sites across BC. There is a specific work flow that you and your primary care provider (PCP) will need to follow.
